Scanowait is software that restaurants and hotels use to take orders, run their kitchen, make bills and look after their guests. This page explains what information passes through Scanowait, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
When you order at a restaurant that uses Scanowait, the restaurant decides what happens to your order and your details. We handle that information for the restaurant, to run the service it has asked for. For questions about a particular visit, speak to the restaurant first.
If you are a guest
- Ordering from your phone. Scanning a table’s code starts a sitting on your phone. We keep your orders, what you chose and when, so the kitchen can cook them and the restaurant can bill them. You do not need to give a name or number to order.
- Your number, only if you give it. You may give a mobile number to get order updates on WhatsApp, to join a waitlist, to book a table, to leave a review or to receive the restaurant’s offers. We use it only for the purpose you gave it for. Offers are sent only if you ticked the box asking for them.
- Paying. If you pay online, the payment is handled by Razorpay, and card and bank details go to them, not to us. If you pay by UPI straight to the restaurant, the money goes from your UPI app to the restaurant. We record that an order was paid, how, and the amount.
- Reviews. If you rate your visit, the restaurant sees your rating and comment.
- Pay-later accounts. If a restaurant keeps a credit account for you or your company, it records the name, a number if given, the bills charged to it and what was paid.
If you work at a restaurant
- Your name, email address, role, and a password or PIN to sign in. Passwords are stored by our sign-in provider in a form that cannot be read back.
- What you do in the app is recorded with your name where the restaurant needs it: orders you take, payments you record, discounts, refunds, corrections, cancellations and cash drawer counts.
If you ask us for a demo
We keep the name, restaurant, city, phone number and outlet count you send us, to get back to you.
Cookies
We use only the cookies the service needs to work: keeping staff signed in, remembering a guest’s sitting at a table, and remembering which member of staff is using a shared tablet. We do not use advertising cookies.
Who else handles it
We share information only to run the service, with:
- Supabase, which stores the data and handles sign-in;
- Vercel, which runs the website;
- Razorpay, for online payments, when the restaurant uses it;
- Meta (WhatsApp), to send the updates and offers you asked for, when the restaurant uses it.
We do not sell personal information.
How long we keep it
Orders and bills are kept as the restaurant’s business and tax records require. Other details are kept while the restaurant uses Scanowait, or until you ask us to delete them, unless the law requires us to keep them longer.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, and you can withdraw consent you gave, such as for offers, at any time. You can also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
To ask, write to us through the form on our home page and say which restaurant it is about.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top.
